Big Green Prize
Closure of Charitable Prize Draw
The Big Green Prize Company Ltd ("we") has decided to close the charitable fundraising prize draw due to insufficient support. The intention to put EVs on the road or heat pumps in homes, as prizes to improve the UK eco landscape, donating surplus funds to charitable causes, was a sound idea. However the inability to compete in the prize-draw field has resulted in the need to close the draw.
Surplus funds after deduction of website costs, payment processing fees and Companies House fees (there were no other costs) will be donated to the charity identified in the terms and conditions of the prize draw.
Organic internet traffic was not sufficient sadly. And We were reluctant to commit donations to large-scale advertising with the already wealthy social media companies. We did not want to take money from the prize fund and charity funding and spend it on advertising. It might not have brought about the desired result, and we would have simply been passing supporters money to online advertisers.
In May 2026 regulations were introduced for the conduct of prize draws, highlighting the size of the industry and its links with problem gambling. Whilst a prize draw is not gambling by current definitions, the scale of revenue for prize draws has given cause for concern at a regulatory level, which is overseen by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport. While we were easily able to comply with the voluntary code, and while the decision to close the draw was based on insufficient revenue, we are also content to be distancing ourselves from something that is a close relation of gambling.
We do intend to continue to pursue initiatives to improve the eco and health landscape but through other means.
